INTRODUCTION
This method of building a patented form of construction, called compound curved sandwich shell structures was invented in New Zealand by a New Zealand Structural Professional Engineer, W.G.Braine. He invented and developed this sandwich shell structure in the 1970s starting the process in 1971 when he did a Master of Engineering Degree and called them Dome Shells and in 1978 formed his own company, Braineshells Construction Limited in New Zealand.
Dome Construction Limited a New Zealand company founded in 1974 were building polystyrene domes. After finding out about this new method of building domes, Dome Construction Ltd NZ signed a letter in 1977 acknowledging the inventor of this new unique method of dome constructions. In 1980 the inventor signed a licence agreement with them. They built a number of these dome shell homes, the first one being a 3 dome complex in Christchurch, New Zealand. This continued until Dome Construction Ltd went into voluntary liquidation in 1985. Bill Braine then purchased all Dome Construction Ltd assets, including the polystyrene method, all equipment, materials, including BRANZ Appraisals (see Brochure), drawings, copyright, etc, from the liquidator in 1985 and continued this work with his own company.
Designs and buildings by the inventor included other modular sandwich structures, using his technology successfully and as an engineer making design changes as he went along (remembering there were no powerful computers, Internet or web pages then). The inventor of this double curvature concrete dome shell method and other designs, owns all the assets and copyright (c) on this unique method and designs. Copyright lasts for the life of the owner plus 70 years after death. Only the copyright owner can license.
